How to do wiper maintenance to pass the MOT test?
September 09 , 2022
In the UK, according to British traffic laws, motor vehicles over 3 years old must do an MOT test every year to ensure that the car is safe to test drive on the road. This is an annual test of vehicle safety, driving performance and exhaust emissions. This comprehensive test checks all parts of the vehicle, from the interior to the exterior, including the car windshield wipers, and ultimately marks them as pass or fail.
So what can we do for wipers to pass the MOT test?
1. Make sure your wipers are cleaned regularly. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about how to clean your windshield wipers.
2. Check that your front car wipers are working properly and that the wiper arms or rubber refills are not damaged (although the rear wipers is not included in the MOT, you should still check it for your own safety).
3. Make sure your screen washer fluid level stays the same so your windshield always has enough washer fluid.
4. Inspect the windshield for any cracks or debris, and remove any debris that may be causing the wiper problem.
While there are hundreds of possible causes of automotive MOT failures, most failed MOT are caused by a small range of common problems.
According to DVSA data, up to 30% of failures are caused by lighting and signaling in vehicles. Meanwhile, 10% of failures tend to come from tire-related failures, and 8.5% of failures come from mirrors, wipers, and gaskets, or in other words, anything that might obstruct the driver's view.
The wiper is a component that cannot be ignored in the implementation of safe driving, so it is particularly important to do daily maintenance and replacement.
So how often do you change your windshield wiper blades?
